things are changing....
so yea as we all know the tattoo industry has been very up and down the last few years and things are not the way they used to be.
i just got done talking to a friend of mine through email about this...he owns a few shops
he looked into his numbers from about 2001 until now he said that every year about 40% of their income was on credit/debit cards and about 60% of it has been cash until now he noticed that it has swaped around now its 60-80% cards and the rest cash....goes to show you that people are living off of their credit cards....now of course some of you may say that since 2001 a lot of things have changed and a lot more people use cards instead of cash wether it was bc of the economic times or maybe its bc technology has gotten more advanced and cards are way easier than cash.....i think people are living off their credit to be honest.
tattooing used to be a cash industry but it doesnt seem to be like that anymore at my shop our credit card machine was down for 2 days and every customer it seemed like had to go next store to the ATM they were almost shocked and very upset that they had to pay in cash........as little as 5 years ago you paid for a tattoo in cash......when i lived in san diego i worked at a cash only shop and a lot of the other shops were cash only and i lost out on doing a lot of tattoos bc people didnt have cash......im a fan of cash and i think most tattooers and tattoo shop owners are since i like to get my cash than and there and no one likes to pay that 5 to 7 dollar merchant fee.....now enough of that shit
the industry has been very up and down like i said before.....sometimes i dont know what to do and im sure that if you tattoo you have been there too in the last year or so but if you can hold out i think that everything will work out in our favor.....if you havent noticed by now that all those shitty scratcher shops that have 20 dollar tattoos and do 2 for the price of 1 shit are closing down! yay they are going away
they are going away bc they suck and people know this and have very little return clients they have been in business for years off the take the money and run deal....you go in there pay the 2o or 30 bucks and they give you a shit tattoo and you never go back.....now that a lot of people dont have money to get tattooed and since they dont have return clients or anyone in there that has loyal clientel the doors are closed no money no rent no shop
so yea he we are struggling but at least we tattooing almost everyday you might not be making 200+ a day anymore but at least you have food and gas money....so when this shit economy is over with it will just be us standing around......the good tattooers and all those really bad tattooers who have cool nick names like "blunt" "roach""tattoo""paridise" will be back to moving furniture or selling drugs or back in jail for doing some really dumb shit like they always do....
so what im saying is keep your head up guys it will be over soon....this is the struggle and the time to make or break you.....keep drawing keep painting
